A little update regarding closing or selling the site.
Lots of people looking for this yesterday and the awesome P1’s come through again. Thanks to @SeeDubbaU for sending the audio.
For those that are long time listeners, you’ll remember Rocco Pendola, who used to be on the 12-3pm time slot. Things kind of went sour and he called into the Rant and hashed it out with Gordo. Here’s the audio:
I was in studio that day (Lopez the Janitor), it was some of the most uncomfortable moments I ever experienced during my time doing stuff on The Ticket.
The two words that spring to mind here are “fragile” and “butthurt.”
Man, did he have some issues.
Man, I never listened when Rocco was on The Ticket, but boy was he a sensitive little bitch! Dude needs some therapy.
It’s been a long while since I’ve heard this. And looking back on it, I really do feel for Rocco. A lot of what he said truly was the case. He just doesn’t express himself well enough to fight through Gordon’s barrage of special pleading. (By special pleading here I mean his asking for specific examples of every claim, where Rocco is supposed to take if for Gordon’s word that what he says regarding behind the scenes/how Rhyner is, etc. is true.) Thankfully Gordon has grown up some and doesn’t use such sophomoric tactics as often these days. I think it was Rocco’s fairly spot on assessment of how he was treated is what made the exchange so uncomfortable. Not many people are ever that frank about how they feel. However, it is interesting to hear how self-unaware Rocco is. Same with his convenient memory lapses when things pertain to his own words and actions.
What the hell did Rocco expect when he said such monumentally stupid things on the air? I arrived in Dallas in ’98, and I can definitely say that Rocco almost ended my Ticket listening early. He was abrasive to the point of being unlistenable; like Corby without any of the goofiness.
And yeah, I had forgotten what a punk Gordon was back then. Ugh.
I heard Gordon mention a wife, that he told his wife he really wanted to talk to Rocco. When was he married and is he still? I remember reading in Full Disclosure that he was pretty guarded with his personal life.
Yes, I’m pretty sure he does still and has a kid. His on air personality is about being this sort of drifter single guy, and the show works that way with his co-hosts having wives and children. I believe he has an off-air agreement with all the other hosts not to disclose his personal life to keep his on-air schtick going. It’s better for the musers and station to have him portray a character in that way. I could be way off here, but that’s how I’ve always thought the case to be.
Man I only made it through ten minutes of this audio, you can cut the tension with an earthworm.
This MORON Rocco is now writing for Seeking Alpha bashing any stock (primarily SIRI) to get penny clicks for his articles. He tries to come across as an investment advisor and humiliates himself in the process.
He has become the JOKE of internet investment message boards!
Hilarious!
Hey Rocco, it really must suck to be you.
I didn’t know this was here until the BaD bit today. I heard it live off and on as I changed brakes that day.
You’d no doubt have to have a thick skin to survive Gordo. Everyone has a target on their back with him but it’s a guilty pleasure for the listener. Gordo sniffs out weakness to exploit it for new material. That’s probably the key to his success. But Rocco seems overly paranoid that the whole station is in collusion against him here. If you’re ever in a group that is behaving that way, just ride it out because they’ll eventually turn on each other and the spotlight will be on someone else.
I’ve heard Gordo criticize Dave Lane to his face on air, “you’re one of the funniest guys i know but something about your on-air voice just puts me to sleep”. Dave just brushed it off. Rocco would have gone ballistic. But it was simply telling the truth.
Rocco is a better man than Nasty Nester. At least he was able to talk things out with Gordo and not hit him!
