A little update regarding closing or selling the site.
Ever wonder what happens at 5:30AM during the Muser’s first segment of the morning (the “skate-around?”) Well, here’s a glimpse. On Wednesday morning, the Courage Boys were reminiscing about one of their favorite radio shows – The Phil Hendrie show. Hendrie’s bit was pretty genius – he’d do a show all by himself, during which he’d conjure up fake callers that had ridiculous points. Hendrie’s goal was to lure new listeners that didn’t realize the callers were fake to call up and argue.
Jub-Jub recalls the time that he met Hendrie and participated in one of his crazy-ass shows. Funny listen.
Greatness. Nice find.
I used to listen to him every weeknight on the way home from work, he was on 570 or 820 I think.
I was a regular listener to Hendrie when was local in Miami, before moving to California and syndicating his show. He was extremely talented. You would think the bit would get old after a while….he really did the same thing every single night (different characters, maybe…but same bit)…but it never really did. He was always able to put a different spin on it. The hardest part, i think, was drawing new people that didn’t know the bit into it. If he didn’t get callers who were fooled by the bit to call in the thing didn’t really work. After a few years in a market he was basically down to hoping for people who had tuned in by mistake.
1998 or so i tune in to Hendrie’s show for the first time. The guest was so outrageous i couldn’t help it but call in and say that this had to be a joke because no one was that dumb. Little did i know i had fallen into his trap. Great show.
