A little update regarding closing or selling the site.

Well, I wasn’t quite prepared for the amount of emails that came in about this little site. I knew it had been a go-to for listeners, even the station itself, but I wasn’t sure how much it still was. One of the big questions everyone has had was the cost to run the site. I’ll explain that in a minute below.  Thank you to everyone who messaged me and reminded me how important this site is, just too many to reply to.

I started the site for myself back in December of 2007, as a way to easily go back and listen to some of my favorite segments/clips whenever and wherever I wanted because the station didn’t do it at the time.  All of the messages from displaced listeners all over the world started to slowly trickle in and I thought, wow, I’m helping fellow P1’s in the military, people who had to move because of their jobs, randoms that found the station somehow … and so on.  It then gave me a reason to keep posting for all of those people.  It just continued to grow with more and more eyes/ears, so it became a labor of love.

One thing I learned as the thing grew was the station itself took notice and (most) hosts and other Ticket employees were very happy with what I was doing.  Then the station moved and the engineer handling things lost all of their old audio and they began relying on things I posted on the site to grab for their shows, which gave me a bit of feel-good.  I even get the occasional tongue-lashing from Cat, and even Dan Bennett once, making me feel like I’m part of the crew.  (Cat I know the audio is Cumulus property!!  lol)

Now to the question everyone has asked in emails, “How much does it cost to run this site?”  Hosting and bandwidth averages in the $400/mo range ($4800/yr).  It uses quite a bit of space with 17 years of audio posted.  Then the bandwidth to stream all of that audio racks up quite a bit as well.  Cat had told me accepting donations was okay, but I honestly hate asking people for money.  I did it last year and people were awesome, I just dislike the process.  I do run Google ads on the site to try and offset the costs that earn a little but people have to click the ads to earn anything and I’m sure most tune them out like I do.

Based on the number of emails from people unhappy about shutting it down, I’ve decided I’ll keep it running and ask for donations to help offset costs.  If money is tight, you can help by paying attention to the ads rolling on the site and if you see something that interests you or maybe would help with your shopping for the holidays, visit the sponsor’s ad and maybe they have something that will fill a gift list.  Michael Irvin will end this post…
