Ed’s real name is Louis Smith. He dreamed up Ed Wallace by combining the names of two national broadcasters. He was a salesman, never a manager, doesnt know shit about cars or business, complete farse smoke screen for 17 years.
John Clay Wolfe on the Fan is already kicking the shit our of ted wallace. But damn what a looker, eh?
interesting! so is the fake ed wallace the real ed wallace? or the fake fake ed wallace?
Absolute truth. I was the service manager at a dealership Lewis Smith sold at in the 80’s. Nice guy, but completely changed when he adopted his new name ‘Ed Wallace’. The Fake Ed Wallace is the real Lewis Smith.
Wolfe should be on the Ticket instead of the Fag.
There is alot of negative energy in this forum. but Gordo’s impersonation is so funny.
Anythhing goes in the unticket. It’s all in good fun! 1310 ROCKS!
Well, this is kind of fun.
But let’s correct a few things. I use my middle names on air (and I’m certainly not the only one in radio to use a pen name.) and that was a request of Victor Vandergriff when I started the show. Victor’s point was that I would be discussing everyone’s issues not my own. Victor’s advice was solid and correct. So the story about dreaming up the names from other broadcasters is incorrect.
The second part about my never being in management is sadly, completely untrue. And anyone who knows me also knows that’s an outright falsehood.
Finance at both Henry Butts and Ewing. Followed by GSM, GM, used car manager, new car manager, (Van Winkle) and was a GSM when I started the radio show. And was national sales manager for Neonex Leisure in California. I did sell often between management jobs.
Jake, I’m sorry but I don’t remember you as a service manager at a dealership I worked at in the 80’s. You’ll have to remind me where we worked together.
I will assume that many of these postings come from the John Clay faction. While he hasn’t been on radio in this market long enough to post ratings, (I’ll be glad to post them when the newest ratings book comes out) I can say that in spite of his having a show on many radio stations, Quantcast.com shows his website has so little traffic they can’t even score it for a ranking. That’s truly strange for someone who claims to have so many listeners.
As for not knowing anything about the auto industry, economics or business, my editors at the Star Telegram and BusinessWeek might disagree. Today I am the keynote speaker at UTA’s Communications and Journalism Department talking about the future of journalism.
I’m very proud to have been asked.
And I don’t mind individuals poking fun or disagreeing with me, but outright lies shows the lack of integrity of the writer. One will notice all of the attacks are personal and the information used in the attacks mostly wrong.
As for Gordo, he is one of the incredibly great talents in the metroplex and he’s destined for far greater things.
And his impersonations of my speech had me on the floor laughing the first time I heard it.
Ed Wallace
I have heard both shows frequently. BioS and url’s aside, there is no comparison. Both claim to be car talkers, but neither are. Wheels should be renamed oil, gas, and music. Whereas Wolfe, should reclassify as comic opinionated sob that will pay X for a car. Both entertaining and educatational, Wolfe obviously more entertaining. Ed obviously more educational.
I am going to assume the real ‘Ed Wallace’ wrote the above diatribe due to the familiar arrogance, bragging, and constant name dropping.. Therefore, now that positive ID has occurred, here is my Response to your comment.
A. Your assumptions regarding the ‘John Clay Faction’ are wrong.
B. Your comment regarding my website hits are accurate, your comment about my ratings/listenership is wrong. Unlike you, I am not running a knock-off drudge report website, so that I can beat the system and brag about webhits in effort to validate to my sponsors that my show is worthy of their ad dollars. You repost popular news articles, and count the hits as you own. We both know it’s bullshit, but whatever greases your wheel. Listeners goto my website (circa Aug 2009) just to input their trade information, not to get the news. I think agencies like CNN, Fox et al can deliver the news to the world with more precision than you or I. Also, I think it is just down right odd that you have a news website, called ‘inside automotive’ that is sponsored primarily by local car dealers? Reminds me of a Dairy cow with 5 teets I once milked.
C. Your real name..If my name was Louis Smith…I would have changed it too. Ed Wallace, is a great pen name .
D. The Ratings. Now this is where you personality/ego arrives in print. Being that you of all people would call someone a liar in one sentence, then make a comment above that is a lie in the same. In the PPM Arbitron World, every minute of every hour has ratings. If a new show started yesterday, the ratings on that show would be posted within 40 days of it’s beginning. My first show in Dallas was Saturday July 18. The only head 2 head measurable hours between you and I is 8-9A. When my show began on July 18 2009, you had a significant lead on me. Today you are significantly behind me. You know this already, and trying to talk about web-hits, and claim the ratings aren’t out yet is showing your ass. To be exact I have a 50% lead on you in most categories in the October Arbitron. Your average listener stays tuned in for 15 min, whereas Real Deal show retains listeners for double your retention. Actually, I’m disappointed, bc in September PPM results showed me holding listeners for 45 min, and you still at 15, but my overall CUME numbers increased so much in Oct that it brought my time spent listening down a bit. Here is a link to my blog where I will post the actual Arbitron PPM data since August for interpretation. http://wolferadio11.wordpress.com/2009/11/30/a-slight-disagreement-with-ed-wallace-radio-talker-over-arbitron-ppm-ratings/
Truth be known, you and I are not even in the same business. We are not competitors, we are not piers. I knew this going in, and you were the leader in the DFW auto talk seg. It took me 60 days to pass you in the ratings. You have been on for 17 years, and in 60 days I took you. If my hours were matched to yours further into the morning, you would see the same results. Actually, I’ll make a $1,000 bet with you that I will have a 100% AQH PPM lead on you by March 2010 on the 8-9 seg.
It’s like SMU playing UT. SMU offers a superior education, but the Horns are in a different league athletically. (However, SMU gals on ave are so far ahead of UT’s that it skews, and wrecks the comparison. OK, TCU V. San Diego State…I’ll fo for that. I apologize if now I am sounding arrogant, but don’t call me a liar in a public forum as you did above. You have a good show, that many people listen to. I like your rock and roll min and history references. I’ve caught your show 3-4 times, and those are the points that I recall.
The irony is that we are airing out these facts on a website of a competitive station to both of us, and that station has far better ratings than either of us. Go Figure… JCFW

The link is password protected, what’s the password?
What is Wolfe doing with Hammer? http://wolferadio11.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/wheres-greggo-we-spoke-with-dr-drew-for-his-opinion/
I used to listen to Ed on Saturday mornings, but the other show is much better
password is “real deal”, had to protect it bc arbitron gets all goofy about their ratings in public search engines returns
Is this car guy Wolf, the same Wolf that is greggos new on air partner? Was there any thought of big ed and greggo show going down? Damn that would be terrible
Greggo wants to start a weekly car review with Louis on Wolfe radio.
damn, wolfey boy just bitched slapped this other dude. Ouch, I heard dat all the way over here.
Wow, someone really got their feeling hurt.
Ed Wallace-irony personified: ultra left-wing socialist pimping for evil capitalist car dealers.
Ed Wallace has a pretty good show, I look forward to it all week, and you people could all take a lesson in class from him. Seriously.
Grunge foot Wallace is a typical commie name changer. His historical perspectives are always incorrect or at best half truths. Only foolish cattle follow him.
Wallace is a fraud . I wouldn’t trust half of what he says . I was looking for a new Chevy , and “ED” told me to visit a dealership that sponsors his show. I get there and it was a used car lot owned by ED’s friend . How the heck am I going to buy a new Chevrolet from them ?
Supposedly , he promotes the good dealerships and won’t approve the ones that don’t meet his standards . However ,my experience with his worthless information and backwards generalizations make me not trust him .
His claims like how government runs things better than the private sector. “Deregulation made things worse ” . Republican bad , Democrat good , Jimmy carter underrated , Regan no good . The show has really gotten bad . He is like the Michael Moore of Car talk shows .
