Somewhat or somehow related:
Robert Duvall befriended Pat Ratliff before filming Lonesome Dove so that he could hang around a rough cowboy type to enrich his character.
For years from then on he would fly Pat and his wife Gloria to his ranch or out on film shoots and even gave them bit parts in some movies like The Apostle.
Pat grew up milking cows every morning by hand. His hands were so strong he could rip a quarter in half. He did two for me that i still have.
He was held up in a Walmart parking lot while waiting in his little truck – the guy got his knife a bit too close to Pat, Pat grabbed his arm and broke it on the door with sheer might. I have the article. This is an 80 year old man.
He died but Gloria is working at Homeland – saw her the other day.
I wonder if Wilford gave Robert the idea to keep ‘normal people’ in their life to help them stay grounded. A lot of actors hate hanging out with other actors.
Pat told me he could break my collar bone with just his thumb. I never asked him to prove it. Robert met him through Pat’s brother, who played for the Houson Oilers.
