A little update regarding closing or selling the site.
Rather than trying to answer everyone on Twitter about a news story I tweeted, figured I’d give my 2 cents here. Mind you, I’m not privy to inside info from the ticket, just did a little research to form my opinion. This is the meat of the presser:
Cumulus migrating station websites to Triton before offering streams on iHeartRadio
Over the next four to six weeks, Cumulus plans to migrate management of the web services for its 500+ radio stations to Triton Digital’s platform. Triton Digital’s suite of tools includes streaming delivery (via its StreamTheWorld), audience measurement (Webcast Metrics), ad-insertion, and design of custom media players.
I went and read through the Triton website and they seem to have a fancy platform specifically for radio stations. Once they move over, The Ticket will then be listed with iHeart Radio. When that happens you’ll have to download the iHeart app and find the Ticket and save it as your station. So this is good because I’m sure the streaming will probably work again and be on a more reliable system. Seems lately no one has been able to stream anyway, unless on a wi-fi.
On Triton’s site, it mentioned another service they offer, StreamTheWorld. It appears it gives the radio station an ability to record and archive their shows. Imagine if they had a nice player on their site you can go to and pick exactly what you missed and want to listen to. Would be pretty cool.
We’ll see how things go. There could be a time after the move to the new platform before the iheartradio station is there. In the long run it looks like a big upgrade to our favorite station, but we all know how this year has gone with the move. If I’m completely wrong, would love for someone to explain in the comments section so we can all get it.
I’d like to be optimistic and think that this change will go smoothly, but like you said pretty much nothing has gone that way during this entire move. I finally gave in to the streaming fail and went to Fry’s to buy a tiny radio a week ago.
It’s pretty disappointing that whoever the decision makers are up at Cumulus would let their streaming audience (which I’m assuming is pretty huge) just hang out in the wind without giving any kind of explanation or solution. They seem to be content with the facts that P1’s are incredibly loyal and there’s no palatable alternative for sports talk in DFW, so they just sit on their hands and don’t do anything when things screw up. I’d like to think that they treat their hosts differently, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
When you guys mention ‘stream’ are you referring to listening on a mobile device? I moved to CA & though I can’t listen all day, everyday, I stream via ticket.com quite often and I rarely encounter an issue. One thing that does suck is that ever since TC took over late nights & posting the podcast, I can no longer download them directly on to my phone – I have to stream via a reader. And that sucks. So to TC Fleming – choke on a grilled cheese
Its fun to listen to the Ticket!
When I talk about “streaming”, I’m referring to listening on TuneIn radio or any similar apps that offer the Ticket via 3G. If you are connected to a Wifi network on this app, things work fine. However, that’s not available to me at work, and theticket.com is firewalled. Trying to get theticket.com to stream on my phong is another failed adventure in itself.
Funny… I am using TuneIn on my iPhone and WiFi doesn’t work. I can only stream (poorly) over 3G.
I echo Juan’s frustration with the official Ticket podcast. I can no longer play through my RSS reader (Reeder) or directly through mobile Safari off TC’s blog page. Only through the mobile RSS reader baked into Safari will this work.
@DP Thanks for the head’s up. Please keep the UnTicket P1s posted as this situation unfolds.
i’m curious how this’ll affect me. I currently “record” the stream every day on a server and listen the next day on my iphone as a podcast.
Nerd details: I use NetTransport to attach to mms://live.cumulusstreaming.com/KTCK-AM and record to a raw file. I then convert to MP3 and tag it as a podcast. Then I can listen at 2x speed on my iphone. Haven’t missed a second of Musers, BaDD, or Hardline for over a year. And i haven’t listened to a second live in the same time.
The question is, will this still be available to me after the change?
i use the same link and stream through windows media player. anyone that hasn’t tried it definitely should. theticket.com is websensed but the stream link is not.
you might just get lucky.
I actually went back to using FStream and it works pretty well for me. It’s the only one that consistently works on 3G.
While its.a change, I hope this means that the powers that be are looking for a better permanent solution.
FINALLY, i’ve been having to use FStream to listen on my iPhone and it’s terrible, and i don’t want to have to buy an app (last.fm or whatever) to listen to the ticket, but i do have iheartradio. it’s a good app, once everything is smoothed out it’ll be great
I stream the ticket everyday from my tune-in app on my iPhone and iPad. I live in Los Angeles and its a god sent you guys at the Unticket are around! I am the biggest P1 there is and only thanks to you guys at the Unticket and other means of streaming. Whatever you have to do to keep this thing going please do! P1’s around the world are grateful.
The name of this post scared the shit out of me.
I use FStream on my iPhone.
Hey ap! You’re encroaching on Plainsman’s territory! Just kidding.
I use FStream on my phone and never have a problem, wi-fi or 4G.
FStream on iPhone 4 over ATT 3G all day. No problems. But I don’t live in a big city like Dallas or Houston where ATT sucks iguana balls.
I listen on wunderadio app, but it started failing recently…it would say “no network available.” Everything else on my phone runs fine, but not this anymore.
I use Tunein Radio everyday via 3g and WiFi and have no problems on my iphone 4.
I am in Austin, but I don’t see how that would make a difference.
I listen to the Ticket on my Sprint EVO using Xiia Live Lite on 3G every day. Flawless!
