A little update regarding closing or selling the site.
If you’ve ever heard the “I will beat yo ass…WHOA, WHOA WHOA!” drop and wondered where it came from, then I think I finally have an answer for you. This incident occurred well before I discovered the heroin-addiction that is the little Ticket, so I’m very shaky on who the players are and what became of them. From what I gather, one of them is (Psycho?) Dave, and the other is the very “Canadian” voice of one Johnny Showtime.
If you heard this live, or know any of the surrounding details (the people involved, when it happened, what happened afterwards, etc) please feel free to chip in with comments.
UPDATE: Ok, so I’m really scruggling here today — Good strong UnTicket man Stickman actually had this audio for us back in June, and the great Grubes himself posted a very informative recap of events:
This involved the Hardline and The Hot Spot. The Hot Spot was the nighttime show from 2001-2002, hosted by Kevin Blanford and David Robinson “Also.” They had an intern named Johnny “Showtime” Barnes. The prank was basically that the Hardline wanted to take Showtime on as their intern. Robinson wasn’t happy about it and verbally confronted Showtime before they went on the air. The Hardline and Showtime carried it onto the air and kept baiting Robinson. The results are in the audio. Greatness!
I’m sorry…you may resume using my scrotal region as a soccer ball. *shotgun cocks*….*BANG!*
Is that off-mic Danny at the end, “Chill out man.”?
I believe so. I’m not entirely sure about this, but I believe I also heard the voice of Catttttt as well.
The backstory is explained by “Grubes” in the comment section when this audio was posted on June 10, 2010. It involves David Robinson “Also”.
Thanks! The post has been updated to reflect my brain fart.
That’s Johnny “Showtime” Barnes fighting David Robinson Also.
Johnny, DRA, and Kevin Blanford hosted “The Hot Spot” from 7-10 after Sturm was promoted to noon-3. Blanford was the main host, a Donovan style fake Black. Johnny Showtime was the intern, and DRA was the unstable HSO throwing co-host. He was famous for having a short fuse, being very short with a unique deep voice, and always defending Quincy Carter heatedly in racial terms. He got the nickname David Robinson Also or DRA because he always introduced himself after Blanford saying “and David Robinson also” in his creepy deep voice that came out of nowhere after Blanford set up the show.
The Hot Spot gave way to the P1 Wild Ass Circus after a year or 2 when the Hot Spot producer Big Dick Hunter stabbed them in the back and got his own show.
They would always mix with the Hardline at 7pm, and this audio was a prank by Corby going very wrong. Corby tried to prank DRA by convincing him that his intern Johnny Showtime was leaving the Hot Spot to join the Hardline full time. DRA didn’t take the prank very well…
The David in the clip is noted Canadien David Robinson (aka David Robinson Also) from a late night ticket show called the Hot Spot that he hosted with Kevin Blanford (also, another Canadien). Johnny “Showtime” Barnes was David’s barber, and did some segments on the show from time to time. I’m not exactly sure what the squabble was about, but I think it was a prank that the Hardline was pulling on David where they got Johhny Showtime to tell David he was quitting his show to do some bits for the Hardline. Best I can remember.
It was Johnny ‘Showtime’ Barnes and David Robinson ‘Also’ . Kevin Blanford and David had a show called The Hot Spot after The Hardline.
damn, didn’t see the other responses before I hit Submit, they must have been under review? I seem to remember DRA talking about needing to take off all his clothes whenever he needed to drop the most dirty of things in the bathroom. I think they went on to the very failed Fox Sports Radio after leaving the litle Ticket.
Yep, some posts get reviewed if the author is deemed an ‘unticket virgin’. Congratulations on busting your UnCherry!
DRA admited that he would not use a public toilet, he said he would rent a hotel room just to use the bathroom if he was not able to get to his house.
[…] get just a bit tense. It ends up with Craigory taking a shot at Jub-Jub…nothing “beat-yo-ass” serious, but stuff that you’d definitely expect more from the noon-to-three […]
David Robinson, Johnny Showtime Barnes and Richard Hunger are the voices outside of the Hardline boys. I saw the fight but, was not in the room.
I was fortunate enough to hear this live. I didn’t hear the lead up but from what I understand they were playing a prank on David Robinson Also. David Robinson Also and Kevin Blanford hosted a show in the night time slot called The Hot Spot. They had an intern I believe (or maybe BAD Radio can’t remember) called Johnny Showtime Barnes. DRA was famous for having a short fuse and always arguing so it was an easy play to draw him offsides. They put Johnny up to it telling DRA that he was leaving for BAD Radio because they wanted a more urban vibe and that they were going to hire hime ( knowing full well this would incense DRA who probably felt he was getting passed over-not entirely a false premise as we now know because BAD later added The Great Donovan). ANYWAY-the Hardline finally got everyone in the same room and this gold was created. Top 10 all-time ticket moments right here. Up there with “moron dog” “Paul in…” and “do you like this gig”
“I will beat your ass” freaking brilliant.
